The basic setup is covered in the manual. Its assumed that you have connect power, RF coax cables, TV set, Surround system and your broadband router. (If you found any of that difficult, please make a helping note here)

Channel setup

(copy from MM page 79)

To make the EPG work, you have to set up the favourite channels. Favourite meaning channels you can watch. Don't forget to set a EPG password.

Ethernet – TCP/IP

You get a more stable and fast connection, using cabled network. But the WiFi works fine. If you only have one PC connected to your router, you might need to have a switch connected as well. They are fairly cheep and usually of decent quality for this usage. But there have been issues with some cheep or old ones.

When it is all working, there is a few things you should pay attention to in the setup menu:

In order to use the FTP smoothly, you should disable the DHCP Client and set a static IP address. That way you don't have to search for the player, each time you connect to it.

In the “Setup menu” under “Ethernet – TCP/IP menu” Set DHCP Client: Deactivated Set FTP Server: Read/write Go to “Enter the TCP/IP settings manually” Choose a legal and free IP address for the player. If you have a pretty much standard router setup, with NAT you have one of the following address ranges: 10.xxx.xxx.xxx 192.168.xxx.xxx 172.16-31.xxx.xxx

Lets say that your router has the address 10.0.0.1 Then your PC and other devices on your home network will have the addresses 10.0.0.2 and up. So when you choose a static address for the player, you should choose something higher then they will ever need. For instance 10.0.0.100. Don't change the other number groups, unless you know exactly what you are doing. The maximum is 255.

If your player displays the rest, you can just leave it as it is. Otherwise you will have to look up the settings on your PC or the manual for the router. Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 unless there is a reason not to.
