PC-link port 8000 test

PC-Link software needs some port to run properly. Based on your network topology, you may have a firewall between KiSS player and PCLink streaming server. In those case, some TCP/UDP port need to be opened in your firewall.

How does PC-Link services use TCP/UDP Port 8000/8888 ?

- 8000 UDP to response to KiSS Player that it's ready to stream media (Menu: Search PC-Link server)
- 8000 TCP to stream media from PC-link to KiSS player (GET,LIST,SIZE,...)
- 8888 TCP to response a KML page to KiSS player request

Note: On your local network, most configuration do not need to open any port due to the fact that firewall are in place to secure the access from the outside internet to your inside network. If both your player and PCLink server is at home, you probably not have configured a firewall between them. If you would like to access your home PCLink server from outside internet, then sure the configuration of a firewall is recommended. Be sure not to allow to much incoming request from outside internet (have you legal rights to distribute movie, audio, picture ?)

Windows - How to identify the programs already using the port 8000 on your pc ?

Find below the procedure that you will need to follow in order to see what ports are used by the programs running on your computer. I would also like to make sure that the firewalls and the anti-viruses on our computer are temporarily turned off. Once we have a connection between the pc and the player we can enable them one after the other to clearly make out which one of them needs to be turned off while accessing the files using the pc link and the player.

Select in windows menu, 'Start', and click on 'Execute'.

Type in "CMD", and press OK. This will open a command window.

Type in "netstat -ao" and press enter. This should show you a list of ports opened. Ex. TCP computer name: 8000 computername.domain.local:0 LISTENING 224

If any firewall exist between your player and PCLink server:
Check your firewall settings, to have port 8000 & 8888 openned for both TCP and UDP.

Then close down KiSS PC-link, and try to run the same command. Now you should not see port 8000 open anywhere. If you see the port is there, then look at the last number (in the example above - 224), and note this number.

Then press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and select the job list. Select the Process list and select view -> Select columns. And select PID (Process Identifier), and press okay. In the list then find the number at we found above under PID, and see with program is using this port. You can also close down this program, by right clicking and selecting Close process.
